About Us
The roots of a business started in 1966 when Michael Carroll started his career as a mechanic at Mobil Lift as a forklift repairman.
With some job experience and exposure to various equipment types he moved on to become a shop foreman at Dean’s Equipment in Santa Fe Springs. Working on everything from trash trucks to tankers, forklifts and other heavy equipment, his career was really taking roots.
1975
Michael took a leap and purchased a truck deciding to start his own Mobile repair service.
He began sub-contracting to Ecology Auto Wrecking and eventually become their shop foreman. The shop worked on large loaders and bulldozers, freight and transit trucks, designed and built custom car smashers and specialty equipment involving hydraulics, electrical and mechanical systems.
1982
Flat Rate Equipment Repair became an official industry name when a large shop was opened in Whittier, California.
1990s
During this time period, Michael’s son Morgan was exposed to the shop environment and began to show he had a mechanical mind as well.
He had spent his summers working in his grandfathers auto parts store. Where Morgan learned how to run machine shop tooling and the art of customer service while selling over the counter. While in high school Morgan began working part time at Flat Rate as a mechanics helper, eventually graduating and starting his full time career as part of the family business.
1997
Flat Rate then moved to Pico Rivera and operated there for 20 years.
During this time, Morgan Carroll became the shop owner and operator, continuing the family business.
2018
The shop relocates to Santa Fe Springs, it's current location today.
Throughout our years, and despite a couple moves, we have continued to serve our customers with the same integrity, honesty and family principles the company was built on.
